Balance From The Inside Out: The Simple Truth

We all know that what we eat fuels our body. We’ve heard it everywhere from health class in high school to that late night juicer/blender commercial, to that Instagram foodie-feed post as we scroll through.

The trouble is that, as “healthy” food has become more popular, companies and brands have made eating and taking wellness supplements into a complex, expensive puzzle that often leads us to confusion. We might think we need to follow a super strict diet to be healthy or take seventy pills to give our body what it needs to just get by.  

You might have been made to believe that there’s simply no reasonable approach to fueling your body that isn’t terribly expensive or super complicated to follow.

The truth is a bit simpler than that.

Since your friend may prefer to lift heavy at the CrossFit gym and you may prefer a Saturday afternoon 5k for a worthy cause, you probably won’t be eating the same things to fuel your exercise regimen. Food As Fuel: The Remix

When we acknowledge the differences we get to remix our thoughts about food as fuel. This doesn't mean that how you fuel your body needs to be super expensive nor impossibly complicated. Protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and yes even carbohydrates, along with water are great building blocks to start with (for most people).

Your doctor, a Registered Dietician, or another healthcare provider can be a great first resource when deciding on a way to eat that respects your body and the things you ask your body to do regularly.

When you find a way to fuel your body that respects those two things, you’ll be well on your way to finding a body-fuel balance that makes you feel your best.

Whether you seek the help of a nutrition or diet specialist, do your own research, or visit your doctor, you’ll want to take note of how your body feels as you eat certain things regularly.

Feel heavy and tired when you carbo-load? Too much caffeine making you anxious? Not a fan of brussel sprouts? Take note. And maybe even keep a food diary to check in with your body for a while. You’re not keeping score here. Just becoming more present in your body and remixing how you think about food as fuel.
